Two horses standing close, a smaller one beside a larger. There's something easy and unhurried about them, together, with a backdrop of luminescent pink. Deep olive and khaki country surrounds them, gum trees pushing up into a pale blue sky. The pink here is bold and unapologetic, one of the most electric in the series.
The brushwork is loose and confident… wide strokes sweep the pink hill in one direction, while the green hills behind are built up in thicker, choppier layers. The horses are painted simply, almost silhouetted in warm brown, but they hold the whole composition. The contrast between the hot pink and the deep greens gives this one real energy, and gold of the oil pastel gives a layered warmth and glow.
